Zanzibar Extension Itinerary
Please note that this is a typical itinerary, and actual activities may vary to take advantage of weather conditions, local events, and to allow serendipity to play a hand in your experience. Accommodations are as outlined in the itinerary, although we reserve the right to change these should the need arise.
DAY 1
Arrival in Zanzibar
Upon arrival to Arusha’s domestic airport, you will meet a Boundless Journeys representative who will assist you with boarding your connecting flight to Zanzibar. Arriving in Zanzibar at about 2 p.m., you will be met by your Boundless Journeys Zanzibar guide, and transferred to your Indian Ocean beach resort. Along the way, we stop at the Jozani Forest, one of the few places left to see the rare red colubus monkey. We enjoy a short walk through the mangrove before continuing to the resort. This evening, you are free to enjoy dinner at your leisure.

DAY 2
Zanzibar
Day at Leisure.
Today is yours to enjoy the beach and the facilities at the resort. Depending on your interests, it is possible to enjoy snorkeling, scuba diving, yoga, and an array of spa treatments. Please note these optional activities are not included in the trip extension price ― although some are free of charge at the resort.

DAY 3
Kizimkazi Dolphin Safari
Boat excursion and optional swimming with dolphins.
After breakfast, your Boundless Journeys guide meets you and we drive to the coastal village of Kizimkazi. After time to explore the village and its old mosque, we board a boat and head out in search of bottlenose dolphins. Have your bathing suit on, as it may even be possible to swim with these friendly and playful creatures! On our way back to the resort, we stop for lunch at a simple but authentic local restaurant specializing in fresh seafood.
This afternoon, there is time to enjoy the activities available at the resort.

DAY 4
Stone Town
Walk, easy, 3-4 hours.
After breakfast we depart the beach and drive to historic Stone Town, a few hours away. Stone Town is so named for the coral stone used in construction of many of the buildings here. We tour the old city with our guide and then drive north to the Mangapwani slave caves. After visiting the caves and lunch, we continue to the spice gardens that give Zanzibar its nickname ― “the Spice Island.” By late afternoon we return to Stone Town, and you are free to poke around town and enjoy your well-located and comfortable hotel.

DAY 5
Stone Town and Departure
Morning at Leisure.
This morning you are free to explore town on your own, or enjoy the hotel’s many amenities. At noon, we depart for the Zanzibar Airport for your short flight to Dar es Salaam. Upon arrival in Dar, you will be met by a Boundless Journeys representative and transferred to the Movenpick Royal Palm Hotel, where you will have a day-use room to rest and prepare for your evening international flight. Your Boundless Journeys representative will return in the late afternoon or evening in time to transfer you back to the airport to catch your flight.
