Croatia & Montenegro: A Meaningful Journey Along the Dalmatian Coast

Everything you can imagine about being on the Dalmatian Coast in Croatia is true. The shimmering, turquoise Adriatic, which looks just like the pictures you see in a travel magazine. The historic, walled cities that are over a thousand years old, with cobbled streets, ancient churches and storefronts.

This delightful experience is just one of the many reasons to visit Croatia.

Exploring the Beauty of Croatia

Croatia Ice Cream and Olive Oil

The bucolic vineyards and local wines, the fresh seafood, the virgin olive oil (dribbled over ice cream, if you choose), all reflect the unique flavors of Croatia.

Every day on my trip held special adventures, from kayaking, hiking to amazing vistas, cruising from one island to the next, swimming in the sea, to following a scenic path along the edge of the water and exploring abandoned villages.

The whole time I was in Croatia & Montenegro I was keenly aware of how fortunate I am.

On a daily basis I try to practice centered-ness and being in the moment. I practice being open to all sensations and feelings, as vulnerable as that may be. I remind myself of all I have to be appreciative of. It becomes infinitely easier to do all that when being completely taken care of and surrounded by natural beauty. The Croatia & Montenegro trip allowed me to focus on the here and now because I didn’t have to plan, organize or reserve anything, I didn’t have to watch the clock or look at maps, or GPS, and I didn’t have to stress about finding the “best” spots all by myself.

Every sense was magnified in a glorious way because of that freedom.

Grounded in Connection

My words sound just like the yummy descriptions you read in a travel magazine, and it’s all true. What you might not read in a travel magazine is about the connection that can grow between fellow hikers and their local guides.

That is the piece of my story which is most important to me, because all the beauty of being in the moment cannot compare to humans connecting over these moments together. There’s something exciting about getting to know interesting people that were strangers a few days prior, especially when you are all having new and unique experiences in a fairy-tale setting, all at the same time. It’s bonding.

It started with our guides Doman & Tanja creating a safe, welcoming and fun space where my soon-to-be friends and I could be authentic and silly and real with each other. We truly did laugh a lot, and we were all collectively wowed by so many things. We were blown away by every scrumptious meal, every panoramic view, all the stories of what had occurred right where we were standing, 800 years ago. It felt so good to be able to say to each other “can you believe we get to be here and experience all of this?!”

Have you ever been somewhere special or experienced something profound but had no one to share it with? It can feel like something is missing, or even lonely. Having new experiences, testing our comfort zone and creating connections with other people is why we’re here, I believe. The trip Boundless Journeys put together allowed us to have as full a connection with ourselves, each moment, nature, our senses, and fellow humans as we dared.
