You are cordially invited to join us on this journey from gastronomy to astronomy, as you explore the best that Northern Spain has to offer with Boundless Journeys legend, Nicholas Law.
Arrival to Santiago de Compostela
Today we meet in the legendary city of Santiago de Compostela, a place shaped by centuries of devotion and the footsteps of millions of pilgrims who journey here beneath star-filled skies. After settling into your hotel, you will set out for gentle city walking in the afternoon, an ideal introduction to the rhythm and atmosphere of the old center.
Explore the historic heart of Santiago, visiting the magnificent Santiago Cathedral, built over the reputed resting place of St James. As you wander through narrow stone streets and lively plazas, experience the blend of sacred tradition and everyday Galician life that defines this remarkable city.
The day concludes with a welcome dinner celebrating the beginning of our journey at one of our favorite restaurants in Santiago de Compostela.

Beyond the village, the landscape changes dramatically as rugged cliffs rise above the Atlantic, leading toward the lighthouse. Standing here, you will reflect on ancient myths, the symbolism of the setting sun, and the generations who once believed the world ended at this horizon.
After an invigorating day by the coast, return to Santiago for dinner and a relaxed evening.

The next stop is Leon to prepare for the celestial highlight of the journey. In the afternoon, you will be treated to a presentation that introduces ancient sky myths, astrology, and the science of eclipses, setting the stage for what is to come.
In the early evening, travel to a carefully selected observation site to witness the total solar eclipse, a rare and awe-inspiring event. After the eclipse concludes, return to Leon for a celebratory dinner, sharing reflections on a moment that few ever experience.

The delights of Spanish cuisine are as wide and varied as its landscapes. Hearty stews, steaks, black pudding, lamb, cured meats, and fine red wine are staples in the north. Trout, tuna, cod, and a variety of cheeses are present in most menus, and fresh vegetables are typically in plentiful supply. We generally dine at small restaurants in the villages we visit that offer authentic and delicious cuisine. Dinner in Spain is late, and we eat on the “early” side at 8:30 p.m. Local wines and beer are included with dinner each evening.
