Count Elephants by Moonlight on New “Supermoon” Safari in Zimbabwe August 13th, 2013 • by Karen Cleary As one of my favorite Africa travelers recently said to me, “I am so excited I am shaking in my seat!” That pretty much sums up the excitement around the Boundless Journeys office about a slate of new, small-group African safaris that will debut in 2014. We are still ironing out details for a few of our ground-breaking new trips to Botswana, Zambia, and South Africa, but there is one in particular that is ready to go, and I just couldn’t wait to share the details with our readers! Zimbabwe safari: Full Moon Game Count July 11-19, 2014 Elephants come down for a drink (and a splash) at Hwange National Park. This unique special event is a full moon safari in Zimbabwe where on one night, guests will have the opportunity to really immerse themselves in the wild. We’ll set up a simple mobile camp overlooking a watering hole in Hwange National Park that attracts dozens – sometimes hundreds – of elephants during the dry season. Here, under the light of one of 2014’s brightest moons (a so-called “supermoon”) our guests will assist a local park ecologist with a game count – essentially a census-taking of the arriving elephants, which helps the national park conservationists assess the numbers and health of the herds. All of this is framed within a fantastic, deluxe safari that takes in the most spectacular wild areas of northern Zimbabwe, from the epic wildlife of Hwange, to the bucolic shores of Lake Kariba in Matusadona National Park, to the unique beauty of Mana Pools (a UNESCO World Heritage Site). Optional pre- or post-safari extensions to visit the famed Victoria Falls can be arranged. We only have space for 8 guests on this exclusive African safari, so don’t delay in letting us know you are interested!
