Travel Enlightenment: Breaking Away from the Everyday December 3rd, 2013 • by Karen Cleary This November, I spent a week in Marrakech, Morocco, at a well-known industry conference focused on the concept of “experiential” travel. I spent four days in the company of some of the travel world’s most influential people. But the most impressive among them were those who found a way to use revenue generated by travel to preserve the world’s great wild places, establish connections between cultures, educate children, and of course, expose those of us who live insulated, first-world lives to the true wonders, diversity, and complications of our world. Inspiration means giving back to the places we visit. I came home inspired. I have always believed in the power of travel to push each of us past our perceived limitations. Nearly every time I go away for more than a few days, I experience this myself; whether hiking the Haute Route in the Swiss Alps, or exploring the wild places of Africa from safari camps in Tanzania or Botswana. There is something about getting away from our normal routines and being immersed in novel surroundings that makes anything seem possible. What places inspired you this year? Where will you go to be inspired in 2014? About Boundless Journeys Boundless Journeys is an award-winning small group adventure tour operator.
